In 2019, the previous Communications Director for our trash and recycling service here at Academy Village, WM, gave us an excellent illustrated introduction to what can be recycled and what can’t, as well as why. The Sustainability Committee followed up with several downloadable guides to recycling. Although the talk and flyers undoubtedly helped streamline our recycling efforts, many of us still find ourselves looking at items we are discarding and wondering, “Is this recyclable or not?”
Jennifer Wargo will reprise the general instructions on what makes something recyclable and what items are acceptable in curbside recycling. She will provide easy-to-remember tips for knowing which plastic containers are recyclable and which are not. In addition, she will use the Zoom format to allow Villagers to show items about which they are unsure, giving us specific answers as well as responding to questions about recycling in southern Arizona.
As the WM Communications Director for the Four Corners Area (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico & Utah), Jennifer Wargo manages all the internal and external communications for the Area, including recycling education. She also oversees WM’s charitable giving program in the area. Jennifer previously worked in consulting focused on energy efficiency and sustainability. She has a BA from George Mason University and a MA from Georgetown University.
If you want to assemble a small collection of questionable items for the Zoom, you will be able to signal the moderator to recognize you, so that you can show your items and get answers. If you are uncertain about something, it’s very likely others are, also. Recycling is an ongoing effort here and everywhere, and this presentation is an opportunity for us all to learn how to do better!
