Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, the greatest artists of the Renaissance, worked in Florence at the same time and became fierce rivals? In this 2-part presentation you’ll learn about their lives, the city that shaped them, and the dramatic moment when Florence pitted them against each other in a head-to-head painting contest. By the end, you’ll be ready to cast your own vote in a centuries-old debate.

Part 1 takes you inside the Palazzo Vecchio and the contest to create grand murals celebrating the Republic’s military victories. One wall was for Leonardo, the opposite for Michelangelo. We’ll explore why Florence staged this contest and how each artist approached the challenge. You’ll see what they created, learn about their tools and techniques, understand how history and their personality shaped the outcome.
