Stephen Fairfield, Ph.D: Public art sculptor, formed New Media Public Art Collective
Wednesday, February 18, 2026, 3:00-4:00 pm, Koffler Great Room at ASA and zoom
The area of public art is enormous; therefore, Stephen Fairfield will provide an anecdotal overview of a range of monumental, sculptural public art without touching on wall hung or mural public art. His focus will be on how large, monumental projects get proposed, funded, executed, delivered, and installed rather than on the artist and any symbolism associated with a piece. He’ll provide the “visual feast” and leave the interpretation up to the observer. This philosophy is further revealed in a goal of New Media Public Art Collective, which he founded in 2004. “Through placemaking, our mission is to evolve locations into interactive, compelling destinations that artistically engage passers-by through their senses.”
