Monday, October 6, 2025,
3:00pm – 4:00p.m.,
ASA Great Room and Zoom
If you have enjoyed watching older classic films on television, you’ve surely noticed that the acting style of the 40’s and 50’s is very different from the movies you watch today. John Cameron will explore the dynamic shift in theory and execution that has come to define modern representational acting in film and television in the United States. He’ll follow this shift from the deadly Astor Place Riot in New York over British versus American acting styles through the development of Scandinavian realism; the game changing work of Russian director Constantin Stanislavski and the Moscow Art Theatre; and the explosion of American actor training with Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, and Sanford Meisner of the Group Theatre. Today, the representational realism of American acting influences performance style throughout the world.
