Alex La Pierre: Citizen Diplomat, Co-founder Borderlandia
Monday, June 1, 2026, 3:00-4:00 pm, Koffler Great Room at ASA and Zoom
Alex La Pierre joins us at least once a year for one of his extrardinary presentations, sometimes exploring the tastes of Mexico and how they differ from other areas of the country. Other times he’s explored a location in Mexico we’d like to know more about and perhaps travel to. During this presentation, Alex is diving into the distillation process of Sonora’s Sierra Madres. He’ll uncover the roots of agave culture in northwestern Mexico by way of geography, history, and culinary arts. We’ll leave with an understanding of mezcal, tequila, sotol and bacanora and what makes them distinct. You’ll be able to identify some of the producers, learn about their process and how some of the brands are now working with environmental groups to protect agave habitats.
