Children living in an urban environment frequently have no close connection with the land from which their food comes.  The grocery stores is the closest connection made.  Tucson Village Farm (TVF) is a seed-to-table program designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empower them to make healthy life choices. A program of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona, Tucson Village Farms is a working urban farm and healthy living center that fosters life and leadership skills in young people through agriculture, culinary education, outdoor adventure opportunities, and community engagement.

In this presentation, Elizabeth will explore how Tucson Village Farm is making a significant impact on our community by promoting healthy eating and sustainable practices.  Through hands-on gardening programs and educational workshops, the farm empowers children and families to connect with nature and learn about food systems.  I will highlight the positive effect on community well-being, including improved nutrition and increased awareness of local food sources.  Finally we’ll discuss the farm’s role in fostering a sense of community and encouraging environmental stewardship among our youth.

Liz is the faculty lead for Tucson Village Farm and all of its programming. She is responsible for overseeing all of the operations and programs of the farm so while she has to develop new programming, seek funding opportunities and source donations, her real passion is exposing young people to nature, adventure and experiences which she still gets to do sometimes.
