Decision theory provides a common descriptive framework for describing how people actually make decisions, for comparing what people actually do with what they could conceivably do under ideal circumstances, and for uncovering ways to help people improve their decision-making skills.  Christopher Houk’s lecture explores studies and brain science so that the audience better understands the prevalence and impact of bias in workplaces, the legal system, and society. His presentation  also covers strategies to combat bias and improve decision-making, with references to scholarship in the area. Through some group participation, the audience will develop the skills to become thoughtful and equitable decision-makers and more aware of biases in the environment.
