Honey bee colony losses across the United States are significantly higher than average, with some sources indicating potential losses of 60-70% in 2025, according to some reports. These losses are impacting beekeepers financially and raising concerns about pollination and agricultural production. Many crops rely on honey bees for pollination, and a significant decline in bee populations could lead to reduced crop yields. Monica’s presentation covers the causes of these colony losses across our nation and ends with the feral genetics in our community. Along with teaching classes for beekeepers, educating the public about the importance of beekeeping and the dangers it faces,  she specializes in working with Africanized bees. She removes them live from unwanted locations, takes them to her apiary, and changes the genetics to the more docile European strains.
