2:30pm – 3:30 pm,

ASA Koffler Great Room and Zoom

Vienna Philharmonic Concert Hall

What a grand opportunity to vicariously share an 18-day journey taken by Jerry Newman and his wife Barbara through Coatia, Slovenia, Austria, and Poland.  Having both taught generalized European history for many years, they tend to think historically when traveling.  Now that they are retired, they have the time to travel and share the experience with us.

Jerry will give an entertaining and informative account of their visits in 2022 to the cities of Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Ljublijana, Vienna, and Warsaw with and occasional sidelong glance at the evolution of European history in general.  His oral presentation is nicely stitched together with historical reference points,

cultural notes, and personal anecdotes, all generously illustrated with short videos and hundreds of colored slides.

Jerry Newman was born in Singapore and raised in Washington State.  After an education at the University of Washington, he earned his doctorate at Harvard University.  He then became a Professor of English history at Kent State University from 1970 to 2000.
