Ruth Gomes:  Retired teacher and Activity Director at Rincon Country East RV Resort

Monday, August 5, 2024,

2:30pm – 3:30pm,

ASA Koffler Great Room and Zoom.

As our own murals enhance our community environment, Ruth Gomes will detail just why she shares our fascination with the murals located around our city. Her slideshow, the basis of this presentation, will illuminate many of the murals which decorate Tucson.  Organized by artist, Ruth will share information she has researched about the who, the how, and the why of these beautiful works of art.  A retired third grade teacher, Ruth has always had an interest in art but never the time to pursue it.  Once she moved to Tucson she had the opportunity to explore the city and became enamored with its beautiful murals.  She started a shuttle service traveling around our city exploring the various murals that tell important stories about our culture and experiences and which demonstrate a compelling mastery of the mural art form.  Her tours routinely sold out with a waiting list, as they could only accommodate 12 people per trip.

Why a slideshow?  She discovered through the shuttle tours that she led, that many people couldn’t physically manage either riding the shuttle or the required walking.  In order to accommodate the level of interest that her tours garnered, Ruth developed a slide show that she will share during her presentation. Since retiring, Ruth has had the time and opportunity to pursue her own artistic interests.  She works with various mediums such as acrylic, colored pencil, soft pastels and pen and ink.  She teaches Zentangle inspired art classes for both beginners and experienced “tanglers.”
