Devon Stackonis, MFA: Doctoral Student, Akademia Sztuk Pięknych we Wrocławiu (ASP); Fulbright Scholar, Poland, US Student Researcher in Printmaking 2024-2025
Monday, June 29, 2026, 3:00-4:00 pm, Koffler Great Room at ASA and zoom

Devon Stackonis’ artistry over the last decade has dealt conceptually with her ancestral labor history and the psychological, environmental, and socioeconomic impacts of extractive industry. Through printmaking and book arts, she works to recover histories of her ancestors and connects through an antiquated process which involves the removal of another mined material, copper. This Intaglio printing process requires hours of physically demanding labor.  Her presentation will highlight past works from her MFA graduate thesis exhibition, current research, and printmaking projects.  While Devon creates extraordinary beauty by “scraping the surface” of copper during this printing process, extractive industry’s “scraping the surface” of the earth has damaged Poland’s water resources, creating flooding and affecting climate. She’ll touch on the extraction effects in Poland, some of the activist and environmental movements surrounding that, and how the printmaking process is in conversation with the history of extraction.
