The Tucson Poverty Project is a distinctive experiential learning program that empowers undergraduate students at the University of Arizona to engage directly with issues of poverty in our region. As a faculty-led, community-engaged research initiative, the project partners with local agencies and nonprofits to investigate the root causes and lasting impacts of intergenerational poverty in Southern Arizona. Through hands-on research, data analysis, and community collaboration, students gain valuable skills and experience that prepare them for impactful careers in the social sciences, public service, and nonprofit sectors.  In his presentation, Dr. Mayer will explain how the Tucson Poverty Project was implemented at the University of Arizona and the various improvements in student learning outcomes, community partnerships, and advances in social services accomplished over the last decade.
