For those of us who live in the Sonoran Desert, the mountains, the cactus, and the wildlife are not only part of the scenery, they are a proud part of our culture and the way we live. The award-winning Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan (SDCP) is Pima County’s plan for balancing the conservation and protection of our cultural and natural resource heritage with efforts to maintain an economically vigorous and fiscally responsible community. This presentation will provide an overview of the environmental conservation aspects of the SDCP and demonstrate how these efforts have led to a paradigm shift in land use planning and turned Pima County into a national model for successful, community-based conservation. This presentation will also provide a brief overview of ways community members can support these efforts.
