Wednesday, December 11, 2024,

2:30pm – 3:30 pm,

ASA Koffler Great Room and Zoom

A former chief curator at BRIC in Brooklyn has spoken of Lois Carlos Bernal as “a groundbreaking figure in the history of photography. He was the first Chicano to work with the camera as an artist, and the first to create a sustained body of work reflecting the values and spirituality of Mexican Americans in the Southwest. His work deserves to be more broadly recognized in the history of twentieth-century American photography.”  In her presentation, Lizzy Guevara will provide an overview of Bernal’s life and career and do a brief “walk-through” of the exhibition at the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona being held between now and March 15, 2025. In addition she’ll touch on the work the Center has been doing regarding public programming and community impact.
