Dr. Andrew Woods: Milton O. Riepe Professor of Law & Distinguished Legal Scholar; Director, Tech Law program, University of Arizona College of Law
Monday, October 16, 2024,
2:30pm – 3:30pm,
ASA Koffler Great Room and Zoom
Most of us are much more informed about laws that govern our actions within our community and country. But Dr. Andrews intends to introduce us to the set of laws that regulate activities in space. Get ready to ask those questions you’ve always wanted to ask about when and how our country is regulated by international law as it sends missions into space and uses space for communications, exploration, and other important purposes.
He’ll also give an overview of the basic international treaties that govern things like military affairs, extraction of resources, rescuing astronauts, and liability for accidents. How have some of those laws been recently applied.
Professor Woods has an A.B. from Brown University (magna cum laude), a J.D. from Harvard Law School (cum laude), and a Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Cambridge where he was a Gates Scholar. Before coming to the University of Arizona in 2018, he held positions at Stanford University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Texas School of Law. In 2023 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Copenhagen on a Fulbright Schuman Innovation Award.
