Hearing loss is a public health concern that impacts our community and which affects not only the individual who has hearing loss but also those with whom they live and must communicate.  If you have hearing loss, have a friend with hearing loss, or have a family member with hearing loss, where can you go for help, and how can support networks be developed in your community?  These are some of the questions Dr. Wong, an eastside audiologist, will explain.

She’ll also discuss common approaches and practical tips to treating hearing loss at the individual level and how we can shift to thinking about improved communication through universal design and community empowered approaches.  Dr. Wong will discuss the idea of building communication support networks and how we may institute different levels of change or rehabilitation.

Dr. Wong has served diverse patients across the lifespan, working with them to build a comprehensive hearing rehabilitation plan to enhance communication and quality of life. Her areas of interest include hearing healthcare equity and access, with clinical expertise in hearing evaluation, hearing aids, hearing assistive technology and audiologic rehabilitation. Most recently she was an Associate Clinical Professor & Research Audiologist at the University of Arizona Speech Department of Language & Hearing Sciences. There she held a blended position involved in teaching, scholarship, and service for 11 years. Her accomplishments include distinction as a University of Arizona Hispanic Serving Institution Fellow (2019), and she was awarded the Provost Award for Innovation in Teaching (2023). She also has multiple co-authored, peer-reviewed scientific publications and conference presentations.
