Frédéric Chopin’s piano music is especially well known and liked among audiences. Now Alexander Tentser provides an opportunity to learn more about Chopin’s respected artistry. He will also delight us with a performance of Chopin’s music. Dr. Tentser will demonstrate that Chopin’s piano music represents a pinnacle of beauty in Western arts. His miniature and longer works are perfectly balanced between emotional content and formal structure. As a Romantic artist, Chopin favored intense emotion over cool reason, yet maintained clear control of form. In this talk, the artistic and musical principles of Romanticism will be presented through the piano works of Chopin, particularly through his 24 Preludes. Chopin’s connection with Baroque masters, particularly J. S.Bach, will be explored. Mr. Tentser’s presentation will be entertaining and informative for all music lovers, as well as connoisseurs.

Alexander Tentser’s career began in Kyiv. At age four he studied piano with his father. At fourteen, he studied at the Gnessin Music College in Moscow with Theodor Gutmann. After immigrating to the United States, he received a full scholarship for doctoral studies with Nohema Fernandez at the University of Arizona. Alexander Tentser has performed as an orchestra soloist, piano recitalist, and chamber musician in Russia and the United States. As a conductor, he has directed the Cochise College Orchestra and the Pima Community College Orchestra. Currently, Dr. Tentser teaches at Pima Community College and maintains a private studio for children and adults. His students have participated in international festivals and competitions. He also coaches chamber music ensembles for the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music and is a lecturer and music scholar. He has taught music courses for adults at the Learning Curve in Tucson, and his articles have been published by Cambridge Scholars.
